PAN Joins the Planetary Health Alliance to Advance Sustainable Healthcare and Nutrition

PAN International is proud to announce that we have been approved as a member of the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA), a global consortium of universities, research institutes, government entities and organisations committed to understanding and addressing how human-driven changes to Earth’s natural systems affect human health.

Joining this global community reflects our commitment to collaboration on the often overlooked health impacts of climate change and to advancing healthier diets for a healthier planet. As part of the PHA, we stand alongside leading institutions in more than 80 countries that are advancing science, policy and education in the emerging field of Planetary Health, a field that recognises that human health is inseparable from the health of the planet.

As our President and CEO Kerstin Plehwe explains, “Joining the Planetary Health Alliance reflects our shared vision that medicine, nutrition and environmental stewardship must go hand in hand. We are honoured to collaborate with this global network of scientists and changemakers and to help bring the principles of Planetary Health into healthcare systems around the world.”

Environmental degradation, biodiversity loss and climate change are not only threatening ecosystems but also increasing disease risk, malnutrition and mortality. At PAN, we understand that there is no human health without planetary health. Guided by the updated principles of the 2025 Planetary Health Diet, we promote dietary patterns that are both nutritionally adequate and environmentally sustainable.

Through initiatives such as our Healthy Hospital Food Project and the Green Food Experience Programme, we support healthcare professionals in putting these principles into practice, making healthy and sustainable diets accessible in hospitals, schools and communities.

We deeply appreciate the leadership of the Planetary Health Alliance in advancing this interdisciplinary movement and we are honoured to contribute by engaging the global healthcare community in this collective mission.
