Job Post: EU Public Affairs Officer

Candidate Location: Travel distance from Brussels (Belgium or Netherlands)

About the Role

We are looking for a changemaker who can translate big ideas into political and social momentum at the EU level. You will be responsible for monitoring, analysing and influencing EU legislative and policy developments related to food and nutrition. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the EU decision-making process and a strong commitment to our policy goals. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy Analysis & Monitoring: Actively track and analyse legislative and regulatory proposals from EU institutions (European Commission, Parliament and Council) that impact food, nutrition, and public health. 

  • Advocacy & Engagement: Develop and execute effective advocacy strategies. Engage key EU policymakers, officials and stakeholders to communicate our positions and influence policy outcomes. 

  • Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant EU institutions, industry associations, NGOs and national representatives. 

  • Internal Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams to provide timely policy updates and strategic advice. Prepare briefing notes, position papers, and presentations for internal and external audiences. 

  • Communication: Contribute to the development of public-facing communications, including press releases, social media content, and newsletters, to raise awareness of our policy priorities. 

  • Project Management: Support or lead specific projects and campaigns, from concept development to implementation and evaluation.

Key Requirements

  • Experience & Qualifications

    • A university degree in a relevant field such as Political Science, Law, Public Health, or Food Science. A Master’s degree is preferred. 

    • A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in EU public affairs, policy or a related field, preferably with a focus on food and nutrition.

    • Proven experience working with or within EU institutions.

  • Skills

    • Excellent knowledge of the EU legislative process and Brussels institutional landscape.

    • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear concise policy recommendations.

    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in other EU languages (especially French) is preferred.

    • A skilled networker with proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders. 

    • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
