PAN and NNEdPro Launch the Global Nutrition Observatory for Medical Nutrition Education (GNOME) to Strengthen Healthcare Training

We are proud to announce the launch of the Global Nutrition Observatory for Medical Nutrition Education (GNOME), a landmark collaborative initiative with the NNEdPro Global Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health. GNOME marks a significant step forward in global efforts to strengthen the role of nutrition within medical and healthcare education.

Building on the achievements of the NEPHELP project, GNOME will serve as a global observatory and hub for evidence generation, knowledge sharing, policy dialogue, and capacity building in medical nutrition education. Through coordinated data collection and analysis, the initiative will help build a clearer picture of how nutrition is currently taught across regions and where change is most urgently needed.

A New Global Observatory for Medical Nutrition Education

GNOME represents a unifying step for the global nutrition and education community. By generating high-quality, comparable data across regions, the initiative will support:

  • Improved nutrition training for medical and healthcare professionals

  • Evidence-informed curriculum reform

  • Stronger global alignment on nutrition competence

  • Healthier, more equitable outcomes for populations worldwide

Developed through a joint commitment between PAN International and NNEdPro, GNOME will be rolled out in phases, beginning with initial regional activity and expanding over time to support global learning, collaboration, and impact.

Given PAN’s mission to advance nutrition in healthcare and medical education, GNOME reinforces our commitment to ensuring that future clinicians are equipped to address the growing burden of diet-related disease.

“Strengthening nutrition education in healthcare is one of the most urgent and impactful steps we can take to improve global health. The GNOME initiative provides the evidence base needed to drive meaningful curriculum reform across regions and professions. We are honoured to collaborate with NNEdPro on this pioneering effort and to contribute to a shared global commitment that will empower the next generation of healthcare professionals.” says Dr. Nanine Wyma, Managing Director of PAN International.
