Plant-Based Nutrition Journal Series

Tuck into the latest research about plant-based diets, for free!

CPD-Accredited Plant-Based Nutrition Journal Series

An overwhelming amount of medical doctors report that they did not receive adequate training about nutrition. This knowledge gap leaves room for medical doctors to approach their patients with inconsistent nutrition advice, which can leave the patients confused.
Even dieticians, who train for years to know all there is to know about nutrition, report to be frustrated with the lack of information about plant-based diets in their training.

Understanding the power of nutrition can transform your experience of health.

Choosing a whole food plant-based diet, made up of an abundance of fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds, has proven to have an impact on disease prevention and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Don’t spend hours scanning through online databases for the latest research about whole food plant-based diets. We have done this for you and compiled a monthly series of journal articles that will provide insight into the topics of nutrition, plant-based and planetary diets.

Physicians Association for Nutrition South Africa journal series is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about whole food plant-based diets. This may include physicians, dieticians and complementary healthcare practitioners.

I signed up, but I haven’t received anything yet

When you sign up, you should receive a welcome email. If you do not, please check your spam, junk, or promotion folder. Save our email address into your contacts to make sure it lands in your inbox.

When do you send out the activities?

Activities are not sent out automatically as soon as you sign up. We send out activities during the third or fourth week of each month (excluding January).

Do I have to be a health professional to sign up?

Our activities are open to everyone! If you are not a health professional registered with a regulatory body, you can simply read the article and skip the MCQ (multiple-choice questions).

What if I am registered with a regulatory body other than the HPCSA?

We only manage CPD points (Continuing Professional Development points) for HPCSA (The Health Professions Council of South Africa). If you are registered with another local or international body (ie. AHPCSA), please request a certificate from us and you can send it to your relevant body for approval.

What do I have to do to get the CPD points?

Simply read the open-access journal article and answer the attached online MCQ (multiple-choice questions) with 15 questions. You must get 70% or above to be eligible for points. You will see your results immediately and can take the test multiple times.

Can I expect to receive a certificate?

As a request from the HPCSA (The Health Professions Council of South Africa), we will no longer be issuing certificates to avoid duplication. We may create a certificate on request, especially in the cases of being registered with other local or international regulatory bodies.

Will you send my points directly to the HPCSA?

As a service provider, we take responsibility for sending your CPD points (Continuing Professional Development points) to the HPCSA (The Health Professions Council of South Africa). We submit updated information from all activities weekly.

When will my points reflect on the HPCSA portal?

After we have sent a log of activity to the HPCSA (The Health Professions Council of South Africa), they will upload your points within 24 hours. You should receive a confirmation email. If not, please confirm that your email is correct on the HPCSA website or send us an email.

Can I complete activities from previous months for CPD points?

CPD points (Continuing Professional Development points) are available until the end of the current calendar year. You can receive points for any activity you complete in the same year it was sent. However, if you complete an activity sent the previous year, you will not receive points.

For example, throughout 2022 you can complete any activity sent in 2022. However, if you complete an old activity from 2021, you will not receive points for that in 2022.

Who accredits your activities for CPD points?

Our activities are accredited through Stellenbosch University.
